BRC Pre-Entries

Many of you may not realise that for every qualifier a member enters HDRC pays a pre-entry on your behalf to BRC, this varies from £12 for an individual at dressage to £66 for a horse trials team. We have to do this at least 21 days before the qualifier competition which is why we ask for any interest long before the competition.

BRC have announced today that they are going to change the pre-entry policy as follows:-

Dear BRC Clubs

We have listened to your feedback and consulted with riders, team managers, area reps,
clubs and area organisers and have an exciting update for you. You told us how
the cost of pre-entries was becoming burdensome, and was prohibitive to clubs
and members who would love to enter more classes but were struggling with the
costs.

Pre-entries generate income for BRC which has previously covered the costs of scoring
materials and rosettes for qualifiers, official steward training, hat tags, various other training and championships. This income needs to be recouped so we have been working on alternative ways to retrieve these funds in a more palatable way for clubs and members.

Moving forwards from October 2025 for the 2026 championships, pre-entry fees will be replaced by a competition pass.

The competition passes will be £30 plus transaction fee (for riders with 1-2 horses) and £45 plus transaction fee (for riders with 3 or more horses) for a rolling 12 months. Horses do not need to be registered.

We know that half of BRC clubs cover the cost of pre-entries for their members, so to ensure that this can continue but also covers eventualities of both the members and clubs paying for pre-entries, the competition pass will be available for purchase by either the member or by the club who will assign the pass to a
member within their club.

The Competition Pass

- Will be an annual pass, valid from date of purchase for 12 months

- Will only be valid with an active club membership

- Allows the holder to enter as many classes as they wish at their area qualifiers

- Members with a competing membership may compete with any club, they will not need to purchase a second pass if competing for two different clubs. Clubs may consider a policy where riders compete for different clubs if they pay for the competition pass

- Members must have a valid club membership and valid competing pass at time of competing, the onus is on the rider to ensure they have up-to-date memberships
