Every year at Blenheim Palace Horse Trials a Team Riding Club Eventers Challenge at 90cm and 100cm is held. A club may enter one team only in either the 90 cm or 100 cm challenge, a team consisting of 4 with the best 3 scores to count. The Eventer Challenge is a Derby style competiton with a section of 8-10 show jumps leading to 6-8 cross country fences and finishing over a show jump. The whole round is timed and measured at a speed of 375m/minute.
We tried to enter a team at 90cm but were balloted then a couple of weeks before the competition we were offered an entry at 100cm. A team of 4 was put together at short notice and headed to Blenheim.
Candice Payne on Minesa Guiness
Becky Lloyd on Wotsthecatch
Zoe Chambers on Cult Dolly Mix
Ruth Starey on Wonhams Blossom Hill Lady
Candice was the first to go and did a lovely clear round just finishing with 0.8 time faults. Becky was next and just rolled one pole but finished with no time faults. Zoe and Ruth also had a few poles down and managed to get inside the time. This meant our team finished on a total score of 12.8 penalties and only just missed out on a placing coming a very creditable 11th out of 43 teams.
