We had teams and individuals competing in the 80, 90 & 100 Challenges and individuals in the Combined Training so it was going be a long weekend.

Saturday morning started bright and early with the Senior 100 Challenge. We only had a team of three for this consisting of Elise Gayler on Hotspur Last Tango, Becky Lloyd on Wotsthecatch and Ruth Starey on Wonhams Blossom Hill Lady. The going was quite soft and slippery in places after several nights heavy rain with few clears in the show jumping phase. All 3 of our riders rode super clear rounds on the cross country phase, Ruth rode a double clear and Elise was the closest to the bogey time. There were no individual places for us but the team did really well to come 7th.

In the Senior 90 Challenge we had a full team of 4, Caroline Exley on Copperfield Iris, Becky Lloyd on Pinebar Stringfellow, AJ Harwood-Stamper on Lucifer’s Star and a last minute replacement of Jamie Meg Cholwich on China Drum. All 4 jumped clear in the show jumping phase, Caroline and AJ collected too many time penalties to get an individual place and Jamie had a couple of stops on the coss country. Becky and her ever reliable Ringo were only 3 seconds off the bogey time and came 3rd with the team being just out of the rosettes in 12th place.

The last Senior class of the day was the 80 Challenge with just Suzie Artlett on her mother’s Mrs Beaton to go. Suzie had an unlucky jump down in the show jumping and stormed round the cross country just getting 1.2 time penalties. We thought this would put her out of the rosettes so Suzie was delighted to hear she’d come 6th.

Mean while on the other side of the show ground Sophie Zahra on Myshall Robby was doing the Junior Combined Training (Test 100Q and 85cm sj) as an individual. They rode a lovely test getting an excellent score of 30.5 and clear show jumping to come 2nd!

Sunday was the turn of the juniors to do the Challenge and the seniors the Combined Training.

First to go in the 100 Challenge was Ella Bubb on her super Stirred Not Shaken. They were really unlucky to just touch the planks in the show jumping and flew round the cross country.

The team in the Junior 90 Challenge was Millie Bubb on Mundow Petanque, Sophie Zahra on Myshall Robby and Olivia Watts on Agher Spotted. Millie and Olivia both rode super double clear rounds and Olivia was just 3 seconds too fast to come 6th as an indvidual and the team came 5th.

For the senior combined training Suzie Arlett did the 90Q/75cm on Mrs Beaton and Caroline Exley did the 100Q/85cm on Copperfield Iris. Suzie and Bea finished on their dressage score of 31.3 to come a marvellous 2nd. In the afternoon I arrived to do my dressage test to discover I’d learnt the wrong one so after a quick relearn we did an average test to score 32.9.
