NAF Five Star National Horse Trials Championships

Wow, what a great weekend for Horsham & District RC members at these championships which took place at Swalcliffe Park Equestrian, Banbury.

Friday was the turn of our 80 senior team, Maxine Gayler on Dougal, Jackie Oxley on Shakespeare’s Romeo, Amy Sheen on Wolvers Obsession and Suzie Artlett on Mrs Beeton.  The 80’s do all three phases on the one day so it was an early start with Max and Dougal setting a good standard at 32.5 dressage in their arena. This was Amy’s first time representing the club and Suzie Wells had her first baby only 9 weeks ago. All did really well with Max getting individual 5th in her arena and the team coming 5th.

The 100 and the 100+ riders have to trot their horses up for a vet inspection on Friday. All passed as sound and were able to do their dressage tests.

The 100 team was an Area 13 team with Rachael Morley on Eline from WSRC, Sara Ingleson on War Lord, Ruth Starey on Red Apache and Becky Lloyd on Golden Boy II all from HDRC. On Saturday the cross country phase took place which because of the exceptional weather didn’t have the roads and track and steeple chase. Sara and Rachael both had super clear rounds. Ruth and one stop and Becky’s horse who is new to eventing after a successful show jumping career wasn’t quite sure at one of the water jumps and had a couple of stops. On Sunday the show jumping phase takes place and is done in reverse order of places after the cross country. Sara did another super clear to finish on her dressage came and came 2nd in her arena. Rachel also did well to get an individual 7th and the team came 8th.

The 100+ team was Helen Millichamp on Feach Ger Boy, Zoe Chambers on Cult Dolly Mix, Becky Lloyd on Wotsthecatch and Ruth Starey on Euonymous. Like the 100 team their competition is spread over the 3 days. Helen on Jezza was the star in this section finishing on their dressage score to win their arena and become overall champions! The other members of the team were just out of the rosettes but all completed on good scores to put them 4th.

Also on Saturday Rachel Webb on Quinto II represented the club as our only senior rider in the 90 section which is also a one day event. Rachel had a good day too to finish 10th in her arena.

Well done to all our riders and their family and friends that helped to make this such a successful weekend for Horsham
